Registration for Speed Skating

Family Accounts


A new registration system will be in place for the 2018-2019 Season. Families will be emailed their log-in credentials after Family Accounts are created. Families will then need to update each member's Profile. They can then proceed to online registration. Registration Night & 1st Night of Skating

Join us on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 for our Registration Night (6:30pm-8:30pm uptairs at the Kinex Arena).

Skating starts Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at the Kinex Arena.

Open Try-It Nights: Not sure if Speed Skating is right for you? Come out and try for free!  

2019-2020 Open Try Nights: Any Tuesday or Thursday from October to March. Fill out our online form to register for an Open Skate Night and a member of the Executive will contact you. Questions? Email: rdspeedskating@gmail.com

Note: A Three-Week Trial Period is available for new Club Members upon Registration. 

Skates and Damage Deposits

  • Full Year Skate Rental: $150.00/skater (included in online registration and fees, below)
  • 1/2 Year Skate Rental (Oct-Dec): $75.00 (included in online registration and fees, below)
  • New Damage Deposits: 2 undated cheques for $125.00 each are submitted to the Club for each skater during the on site Registration and Skate Pick-Up Night.
    • New cheques will be collected from all new and returning families
    • 2 cheques per skater: 1 for Skate Damage Deposit and 1 for Skin Damage Deposit
    • Cheques must be dated for 1 May 2020

Registration Categories and Fees for 2019-2020 Season (Updated 13 May 2019)

Red Deer Central Lions Speed Skating Club uses the Speed Skating Canada Online Registration System (MAS) for Club Registrations. All registrations and payments are completed online. A transaction fee is applied to all payments. Online Registration will open in August. Registration Night (supported, in person, online registration and skate pick-up) is September 17, 2019, in the Kinex Arena (6:30-8:30pm, upstairs). 

Membership
Alberta Speed Skating and Speed Skating Canada have updated their Membership Categories and Fees. All speed skaters in Canada must register with a Club affiliated with a provincial organization and Speed Skating Canada. Fees are based on the level of skating (e.g. Elite, Competitive, Participant). All adults/volunteers must also register as an Associate Member. Membership categories and fees for 2019-2020 on Alberta Speed Skating: SSC and AASSA Fees 2019-2020.
Adult Associate Member 
(Adults/Parents/Guardians/Volunteers)

All adults in a family are expected to volunteer to support the Club. All adults in a family (parents, guardians, caregivers) who volunteer in any capacity (for example, Club Meets, set-up / removal of practice mats, etc.) must register as Associate Members for insurance. An Associate Member is a member of a Canadian speed skating club who contributes as a coach, official, volunteer or parent who does not participate as a skating member. We do not charge a Club Fee for this role. Only the AASSA/SSC Fee is charged for this membership.

Adult Associate Registration Fee: $21.00 (+ MAS Fee)

 

Elite, Affiliated Skaters


A skater who participates in sanctioned international and / or national competitions, namely SSC National Championships (age, junior, senior), Canada Cups, North American, Canada Winter Games and selection in Canada. Skaters in this category do not train in Red Deer with the Club, but are Affiliated with the Red Deer Club. Only the AASSA/SSC Fee is charged for this membership.


Elite, Affiliated Skater Registration Fee: $160.00 (+MAS Fee)


Please note, Club skaters who qualify for National events (e.g. Age Class) will be upgraded to Elite and have the difference in AASSA/SSC Fee applied to their account. 

Introductory Learn to Speed Skate

10 Sessions WITH Speed Skates (Non-Competitive)

Come out for 10 sessions starting the 2nd week of October. This is a Learn to Speed Skate program and skaters must be able to skate (unassisted around a hockey rink several times on their own). This is a Non-Competitive Learn to Speed Skate Intro Program and includes Speed Skate rental. Skaters in this category or not eligible to attend Meets. Skaters who wish to attend meets must register in the regular program. Skaters in this program will skate with Group 1 (on-ice time: 5:45pm) once a week (Tuesday or Thursday) from the second week of October for 10 weeks.


Fees for the Intro 10 Week session include: 


$ 16.00 (AASSA/SSC Introductory Category)
$ 200.00 (Club Fees: Coaching and Ice Time)
$ 75.00 (Short Track Speed Skate Rental)


Total Fees = $291.00 (+MAS Fee)

1 Night a Week (October - March)


For skaters who wish to skate 1 Night a Week. This program includes Speed Skate Rentals needed for competitions and practices. Skaters will be placed based on their level at the end of last season. New skaters will start with Group 1 (5:45pm on ice time) and be evaluated by the coaches for placement. Families may choose either Tuesday or Thursday. 


Fees for the Season (October through March) for 1 Night a Week (Short Track and Long Track) include:


$ 110.00 (AASSA/SSC Competitive Category; $90.00 for Participant)
$ 230.00 (Club Fees: Coaching and Ice Time)
$ 150.00 (Short Track Speed Skate Rental)

Total Fees = $490.00 (+MAS Fee)


All Club Skaters are encouraged to participate in Alberta Speed Skating sanctioned local meets (Red Deer Club Meets in November and January) as a fun, learning experience for kids of all ages. For families who do not wish to skate in any meets, Participant (non-competitive) categories are available. 

Adult/Masters Skater (December-February)


Aimed at Masters Skaters who wish to skate at the Long Track Oval with the Club. This program provides affiliation with the Club and AASSA/SSC. Please contact the Registrar (RDSpeedSkating@gmail.com) to discuss levels of AASSA/SSC Categories.  


Fees for the Long Track Season (normally late December to mid-February, weather dependent) include:


$ 110.00 (AASSA/SSC Competitive Category)
$ $200.00 (Club Fees: Coaching and Ice Time)

Total Fees = $310.00 (+MAS Fee)

 

2 Nights a Week (October-March)


For skaters who wish to skate 2 Nights a Week AND wish to attend sanctioned AASSA/SSC Meets. This program includes Speed Skate Rentals needed for competitions and practices. Skaters will be placed based on their level at the end of last season. New skaters will start with Group 1 (5:45pm on ice time) and be evaluated by the coaches for placement.


Fees for the Full Season (October through March) for 2 Nights a Week (Short Track and Long Track) include:


$ 110.00 (AASSA/SSC Competitive Category; $90.00 for Participant)
$ 455.00 (Club Fees: Coaching and Ice Time)
$ 150.00 (Short Track Speed Skate Rental)

Total Fees = $615.00 (+MAS Fee)


Note: Competitive Skaters who qualify to attend National events such as CanWest and CACLT will be upgraded to Elite and additional AASSA/SSC fees will be applied to their membership (the difference in fees of $50.00).

 

3 Nights a Week (October-March)


Limited to high-level Group 2 Skaters who wish to focus on skill development for competition, this program will run 3 Nights a Week (T/W/Th). This program includes Speed Skate Rentals needed for competitions and practices. 


Fees for 3 Nights a Week Full Season include:


$ 110.00 (AASSA/SSC Competitive Category; $160.00 for Elite Skaters)
$ 655.00 (Club Fees: Coaching and Ice Time)
$ 150.00 (Short Track Speed Skate Rental)

Total Fees = $915.00 (+MAS Fee)


Note: Competitive Skaters who qualify to attend National events such as CanWest and CACLT will be upgraded to Elite and additional AASSA/SSC fees will be applied to their membership (the difference in fees of $50.00)


Note: This program requires 10 skaters to run. Should there be insufficient numbers for this program, skaters will be moved into the 2 Nights program and refunded the difference in fees.
